What is academic validation?
Academic validation is when a student relies on their academics to feel recognized as an individual.
It’s a way of getting approval from others
For example, one might be seeking validation in the form of a grade or degree in order to please their parents or teachers.
Another person might be looking for validation in the form of peer recognition in order to feel accepted by others.
What does academic validation look like?
1. Counting not being the best as a failure
2. Burnout
3. Constant need for outside validation
4. Excessive stress
5. Anger or irritability
6. High blood pressure
7. Insomnia
Academic validation does not have to be a bad thing all the time setting goals for yourself is a great thing only if they are not affecting your mental and physical health.
What can you do about it?
There isn’t a medicine that can fix the way you feel or the way you think so naturally, this is a tough question to answer but to start with putting yourself first not your academics but that what I mean is if you are tired take a break if you are out of ideas to go for a walk if you are you can’t focus meditate.
