What is OCD?

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental disorder in which obsession are unwanted thoughts, ideas, sensations, etc; and compulsion is the type of behaviour you engage to get rid of the thoughts they do something repetitively.

It's like juggling a million items in your brain at all times and when something shiny goes by you drop them all and start playing with that. Then the million things go back up in the air in your brain and it starts all over again.

What are the symptoms?

Some of the symptoms are as follows

  1. Anxiety

  2. Guilt

  3. Compulsive behavior

  4. Ritualistic behavior

  5. Social isolation

  6. Repetitive moments

People with OCD may experience a lot of things that are very different for every individual.

Coping mechanisms

Coping mechanisms are of course necessary but getting a professional's help is always the healthiest option.

  1. Meditation

  2. exercise

  3. Manage your anxiety

  4. Manage your stress

  5. Sleep management

  6. Reach out to family/friends

There is not much a person can do here but if it helps tell someone you love that you need a long hug cause that could always help.

Things that may also help

Watching a ted talk or listening to a podcast related to how you feel or to know more about OCD here are some recommendations:

  1. Eight by Peter Blackburn (movie)

  2. I WeirDo by Liao Ming-Yi (movie)

  3. Unstuck: an OCD kids movie by Kelly Andreson (movie)

  4. The OCD stories by Stuart Ralph (podcast)

  5. 6 Thinking Patterns that Make OCD and Anxiety Worse by therapy in a nutshell (podcast)

check on others a little, how are you doing doesn't take a whole lot of efforts try and be there for others <3
