Irritable bowel syndrome aka IBS is a disorder that affects the stomach although it’s not a psychological disorder it is most often triggered by psychological factors that are closely interconnected.

Psychological factors that can trigger IBS are:

1.Stress

2.Anxiety

3.Depression

4. PTSD

5.Emotional distress

6.General anxiety disorder.

It is important to understand that psychological factors are not the primary cause of IBS it’s just a trigger. Everyone may have different triggers not all people with IBS are triggered by emotional distress.

The brain and gut health are closely interconnected which means negative emotions like anxiety and stress can directly have an impact on your gut health which result in many physical discomforts which can majorly affect a person’s day-to-day life.

Physical symptoms of IBS are:

1.Abdominal pain

2.Bloating

3.Gas

4.Diarrhea

5.Constipations

6.Cramping

Lack of awareness among people about how mental health plays a huge part in one’s physical health it is important to understand that all factors need to be balanced to live a quality life. People generally aren’t aware of this which makes the patient feel social discomfort, feeling isolated, low self-esteem, etc.

It is a fact that you can’t do anything if someone around has IBS but what you can do is keep a check on their mental health and ask them if everything is okay be there for them emotionally you never know if they might need it.
