What is borderline personality disorder?

Borderline personality disorder aka BPD is a mental health disorder that impacts the way you think and feel about others as well as yourself.

People with BPD feel things in extreme what I mean by that is it is more black and white for them because their emotions are that intense.

How does it affect a person?

BPD can affect a person’s daily life immensely.

A lot of the time BPD stems from trauma so it is important to identify the root of the problem as it can help you with dealing with the disorder.

BPD makes emotions stronger a person with it feels a lot of love and a lot of hate so with every other emotions and sometimes also with tasks for example one may study for 8 hours straight and at times not at all. It is very difficult to regulate and maintain a balance.

Coping mechanisms

Knowing what’s happening around you and seeing things as they are like facts rather than overthinking can be very helpful.

1. Support groups

2. Talk about how you feel

3. Exercise

4. Learn to regulate your emotions

5. Breathe

6. Understand what you feel

Be mindful.

Things that may also help

Watching a ted talk or listening to a podcast related to how you feel or to know more about BPD here are some recommendations:

1. Prozac Nation by Elizabeth Wurtzel (movie)

2. Silver Linings Playbook by David O Russell (movie)

3. Rachel getting married by Jonathan Demme (movie)

4. Borderline Personality Disorder by Psychology Unplugged (podcast)

5. Borderline Talks Back by Coral More (ted talks)

“Favorite person”

People with BPD often have someone as their favorite person which they admire, love, and rely on it is very easy for that to become unhealthy as in blindly doing what they say or accepting what they do when in real life you know its toxic. It is important to know that the world does not stop if you cut someone you love off as harsh as that sounds it is the reality it’s okay to let people go.
